Colorado AI Act: from SB 26-189 to the 2027 rules

Colorado rewrote its AI Act in May 2026 and the attorney general is now writing the rules. Every step so far, the comment deadline and the date the duties start.

6 steps · Updated

Colorado didn't repeal its AI Act; it rewrote it. SB 26-189 swapped bias audits for notice and transparency duties, and the attorney general has to finish rules before those duties start on January 1, 2027. The proposed rules are out, an interim redline followed in October, and comments close on October 26. If you use AI in hiring or lending decisions about Coloradans, this is the window to be heard.
