AIDA was Part 3 of Bill C-27, which would have regulated high-impact AI systems. The bill died on the order paper when Parliament was prorogued on January 6, 2025, so it never became law and Canada has no federal AI statute in force. Federal AI legislation may return in a future bill.

What this means for your team

No AIDA obligations apply today. If you serve Canadian customers, the federal privacy law (PIPEDA) and provincial privacy laws, including Quebec's Law 25, still govern personal data used in AI systems. The EU AI Act is a reasonable design baseline in case Canada legislates again.
